Maybe five or six years ago, I was writing a blog which resulted in my book A Year of Questions. I needed lots of quotes for this blog, and found a wonderful site for artists called Painter's Keys run by the Canadian painter Robert Genn.I signed up to his newsletter (you can do so here) and he signed up to mine. I unsubscribed a few years ago when I was having a clear-out and forgot all about it.
Yesterday he posted a link to my article about slowing down on his site, here. He must be still getting my newsletter. I had 700 new visitors to my site (and counting). I had several emails from new readers, who'd enjoyed my blog and were going to buy one of my books. Hello readers from Painter's Keys!
This is the magic of networking. If you connect with people because you like what they're doing, you never know where it will take you. Sometimes nothing happens for five years. Sometimes you get to help them and that feels really good. If you're in touch because you like them, it doesn't matter anyway. I love it.
I've posted an article about networking on my site here - go see. I'd be interested in your experiences.
In other news, there's a new interview up at 100 Readers - meet Patrick Andrews. And if you haven't come to say hello to me on Facebook yet, here's the link.
It's drizzly and miserable here today - the perfect day to stay inside and drink sugary earl grey and write. At least my garden is getting a good soaking - some of this rain will be inside my tomatoes later in the summer! Happy Wednesdays x

I really liked your article on Networking. Networking when looked at from your perspective does become an enjoyable adventure & a way of meeting wonderful people. Each person you come into contact with offers new perspectives and individual gifts.
Talking of networking. I recently joined Twitter. I am already hooked. And now I notice you have a twitter page. Great.
Kat :-)
I love Painter's Keys.
700 new visitors. That's wonderful.
I'm off to meet Patrick Andrews.
Thanks for the links. Will check them out.
If you're trapped inside by the weather and stuck on your WIP, come enter my little writing contest. :)
I took a quick look at Painter's Keys and - what a brilliant site, how could I not subscribe?
I only started my blogger blog just over 2 months ago and felt almost overwhelmed at first by the networking aspect. So many friendly people out there, so many fascinating blogs on every conceivable subject ... I would sign in to add a post to my own blog and then spend all the time visiting and commenting on other people's blogs!
I'm trying to even up the writing/ reading balance but it's difficult!
I daren't join Twitter - I'd never get any 'proper' writing done!
Thanks Kat. Exactly - it becomes great fun! All my tweeting is automatic, I don't trust myself to get too involved or I might get addicted.
Michelle - isn't it! Really glad to have found it again.
Angie - ta - will check it out.
WIAR - I agree - there needs to be a balance between reading/commenting and writing blogs, never mind 'proper writing'! I do love blogs and blogging though...
